If elected to the Bedford City Council I will focus on being responsive to the residents and representing your concerns. Listed here are some of my priorities.
Communications / Transparency
My business is helping my clients become more successful by providing better communication to their customers. I monitor social media and see what is being posted in the various online groups about the City. I am seeing and I am listening to you. I will be responsive to the residents of Bedford.
I will work to make communicating with the citizens a priority to see that important information is getting out in a timely manner and that you have easy access to the the things you need to know. At the same time I will work to take your communication to the City and follow through for you.
The City is a "business" and I believe that we need to treat our finances as such. This means cutting waste, getting more ROI from each dollar and doing a better job of planning long-term. We need to understand how our budget decisions each year will effect budget needs in the future. We also need to look at how we manage and take on new debt without sacrificing the needs of the city.
Streets & Other Infrastructure
Our roads, water and sewer system and municipal buildings are a reflection of the condition of our city. If we want to attract new businesses to Bedford and make our city a quality place to live and work we need to take pride in our city and improve them.
I support the need to speed up our capital improvement projects so that we do not continue to fall behind. We must start budgeting more strategically by looking longer term at our needs, setting funds aside accordingly. This has not been done for years.
We need to develop a better plan to routinely repair roads and maintain our infrastructure than what we have been doing.
Supporting Fire & Police
I support providing a safe and secure community for residents so I will work to make sure our Police and Fire departments have the resources they need to keep our citizens safe.
I know the dedication and sacrifices our first responders make for us on a daily basis and I feel that we need to continue to provide competitive wages and benefits to keep our departments fully staffed.
I support a strong focus on our business development. The right kind of new business makes our community more vibrant and provides more sales tax revenue that goes into our street fund and general fund. New business also generates more commercial property tax for the city.
Significantly increasing sales tax revenue and commercial property tax revenue eases the burden on residential property taxes, something that is sorely needed.
Economic growth helps us with debt reduction and helps to improve our infrastructure.
Bedford is called "The Center" for a reason. We have a great location in the DFW area being in the center of the metroplex.
I support making Bedford a destination for business, new residents and visitors by fully developing the Bedford Commons project. This project achieves so many desirable things for our city. It will provide a gathering place for our residents and visitors to relax, dine, be entertained and live. When completed it will be the largest development project ever undertaken in the city at an estimated $120 million and is estimated to generate over $60 million in combined sales and property tax in the coming years, all at no financial cost to the taxpayer.
I feel strongly that one of the priorities of the city is to keep the neighborhoods revitalized and in good repair if we are to attract visitors, new residents, businesses and developers.
We cannot let our neighborhoods lose home values due to code violations. I feel that enforcing our code and providing adequate staff is one of the best and least expensive ways to improve our city.
It’s time to enforce our existing codes and ordinances to keep Bedford beautiful.
Improving Services for Residents
Quality of life is what makes Bedford such a great community to live in and be a part of. I support working with city management and staff to make sure that we have the proper staffing levels to provide the necessary services to maintain the services our residents expect such as our parks, library, animal control, building permitting and inspections.
Vote for Cindy on May 1, 2021. I look forward to serving as your City Councilwoman for Place 1.
